📝 Publications

2024 | Peer-reviewed Journal | Land (IF=3.2)
Yiqi Wang, Jiao Yu, Weixuan Wei, Nannan Dong
- In this paper, I established a spatial-temporal framework to assess the carbon sequestration capacity of large urban parks.
- Using remote sensing imagery and the random forest algorithm on the Google Earth Engine platform, I performed biotope classifications and analyzed their temporal and spatial transitions.
- Focusing on Shanghai Century Park, I estimated its carbon sequestration capacity from 2018 to 2023, exploring variation characteristics and driving factors, and proposing low-carbon design strategies for urban park management.

2024 | Peer-reviewed Journal | Land (IF=3.2)
Weixuan Wei, Yiqi Wang, Qi Yan, Guanpeng Liu, Nannan Dong
- In this study, we integrated objective data and subjective perceptions of ecosystem services (ES) in urban park planning, revealing that a 35 m buffer radius optimally aligns assessments for most ES while emphasizing stakeholder-specific synergies to guide sustainable and wellbeing-centered urban green space design.

Xuhui Runway Park Landscape Performance Evaluation
2022 | Peer-reviewed Report | Landscape Performance Series, Landscape Architecture Foundation
Nannan Dong, Yiqi Wang
- Through a combination of on-site and online investigations, I quantitatively evaluated six environmental, six social, and one economic benefit provided by Xuhui Runway Park, including carbon sequestration, stormwater management, biodiversity enhancement, and urban noise mitigation.

2024 | Peer-reviewed Journal (in Chinese) | Landscape Architecture Academic Journal (园林)

- In this paper, we discussed an evaluation toolbox (IMECOGIP) that can be applied for assessing ecosystem service (ES) values in rural ecological planning, focusing on regulating, provisioning, and cultural ES types. Using Shuiku Village in Shanghai as a case study, we analyzed ES trade-offs based on LULC types and identified key optimization directions for the model’s application, scope, and procedures.

2023 | Peer-reviewed Journal (in Chinese) | Landscape Architecture Academic Journal (园林)
Nannan Dong, Zhiwei Liu, Yiqi Wang, Bo Yang
- In this study we developed a 48-indicator governance assessment system for digital parks, covering perception, management, interaction, and intelligence. Using expert scoring, we proposed a dynamic evaluation method adaptable to different development stages and applied it to Shanghai case studies, offering insights for optimizing digital park planning and design.
🌏 Research Experiences
-
2022.03 - Present | Research Assistant - Project Name: Implementation of the Ecosystem Services Concept in Green Infrastructure Planning to Strengthen the Resilience of the Metropole Ruhr and Chinese Megacities, IMECOGIP (one of the subproject of Sustainable Development of Urban Regions (SURE), funded by The Germany Federal Ministry of Education and Research)
- My Work:
- Collected land use/ land cover data from urban and rural areas in Shanghai through on-site investigations and remote sensing imagery;
- Contributed to the development of the methodology for the toolbox;
- Tested, modified, and optimized its application in the context of Shanghai.
- Assisted in organizing hands-on IMECOGIP toolbox workshops in Shanghai, Bochum and Qingdao.
-
2023.02 - Present | Research Assistant - Project Name: Comprehensive Study on the Summer Temperature Regulation Performance and Influencing Factors of Rooftop Greening in the Photovoltaic and Greening Combination Mode (National Natural Science Foundation Project)
- My Work:
- Assisted in reviewing literature on rooftop photovoltaic systems and designing the experimental procedures.
- Conducted on-site experiments in Shanghai; produced schematic diagrams of the experimental test unit.
-
2019.04 - 2021.04 | Program Leader - Project Name: Study on Mood-Modulating Effects of Aromatic Plants and Exploration of the Design of the Aromatic Botanical Garden on University Campus (National Undergraduate Innovation Training Program)
- My Work:
- Designed the experimental protocol; conducted experiments among 30 volunteers on the beneficial impacts of different aromatic plants on mood, depression and anxiety; and analyzed the experimental results.
- Explored principles and methods of designing an aromatic botanical garden on Tongji University campus.
